The Best Free Youtube Yoga Videos Online
I have been doing yoga for a couple of years now. I tend to get bored with any kind of exercise easily and I like to have a wide variety of workouts to choose from. I also like to save money and classes are expensive. Luckily for me, there are a lot of free yoga videos right here online. I thought I would share my favorites with you. So here they are, in no particular order:
Dashama
The first yoga videos I discovered online were by Dashama. I really like her first 30 day challenge videos. They are 5-10 minutes and most focus on one part of the body. She's got videos that stretch the hamstrings, the hips, or the shoulders for example. It is hard to do just one of these workouts. I find that if I stretch out one area, other areas start screaming at me. Releasing and relaxing one area of the body brings attention to what is still tight and tense. Dashama tends to start with really easy poses and finish off with some really advanced work. Some of her moves are impossible for me at this point, but they are inspiring to watch.
I love this one. I've done it a couple of times already.
Dr. Melissa West
Namaste Yoga with Dr. Melissa West
This is a yoga series I found on YouTube. It features over 80 different videos, most of which are around one hour long. I would say these videos are great for a beginner to yoga. She goes into detail about how to do each pose. She also explains the meaning behind some of them. Usually it is Melissa and one or two of her friends doing the workout. They are not yoga experts and they make mistakes. This yoga is relaxing and laid back yoga. She does not seem to hold the harder poses for too long, which I like. Her and her friends are just having a good time, laughing through the challenging poses. I am on episode 21 and am looking forward to getting through this entire yoga video series.
I love doing this one before my yoga routine. It grounds me and gets me focused on my breath and what is going on inside of me.
Esther Ekhart
Yoga instructor Esther Ekhart. has an amazing amount of videos on YouTube. A lot of her videos are 10 minutes or less and focus on one specific pose. Others are more like a full yoga class. These videos have lots of variety. Some focus on meditation or breathing.. She has routines for anything you can imagine, including weight loss, yoga for surfers, runners, for headaches and injuries, depression and anxiety and so much more. You can find something for anything you want to work on. She takes requests too. You can friend her on facebook or comment on her YouTube channel and she will take your suggestions.
I have just discovered this website recently through a you tube video. I love what I have seen so far. There are yoga & pilates classes for beginners to advanced, with a variety of different instructors. You can do something really relaxing or work on building strength. They have a series of yoga anatomy videos so you can be sure you are doing the poses exactly right. The core activation videos have helped me to strengthen that area and learn the proper way to hold my muscles when doing pilates or yoga. My killer lower back pain has subsided since i have learned the proper way to work my core. I think I will learn a lot about how my body moves with these videos. You can even sign up and be a part of their community. Then you can rate and comment on videos and post in their forums.
Yummy Hip & Lower Back Poses
Bernie Clark
I have recently been experimenting with yin yoga, a form of yoga where you hold poses for longer periods of time, at least 3-5 minutes. I find it extremely relaxing and meditative, and my flexibility has increased substantially since I have begun this practice. The best online yoga videos I have found are from Bernie Clark on YouTube. Basically, the videos on his YouTube channel demonstrate and explain the poses he describes in his book, The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga. You can put together a playlist of your favorite yin poses and just flow through them.
So there are a few of my favorite places to find yoga videos online. I would love to hear if you like them too. And if there are any others out there you enjoy, please share in the comment section below. I am always searching for new yoga workouts.
Namaste.
